Point Reyes is about 6 hours of sailing north from the Golden Gate. Depending on wind direction, sailing there can vary from quite tame to wet and wild. My first trip I made in March on my Ranger 33. We had no dodger or proper foul weather gear…that was stupid. We buried the bow quite a bit and arrived very wet and cold.
I’ve been there several other times since on Farriage. Each of those trips was quite pleasant. That said, they were later in the summer. Schools and anchovies and whales were quite prevalent.
Overnight anchorage can be quite rocky depending on the sea state and wind direction. In all cases, we attempted to tuck in as far North as possible behind the bluffs. Don’t get too close to shore, however (don’t ask me how I know!)
